Heidi Elburgi Johansen took up the post as Norwegian special envoy for Somalia in November 2020. Prior to this, she has been posted to Norwegian diplomatic missions in Khartoum (2006-2007), Juba (2007-2009) and Cairo (2009-2011). She has also served in Amman as Deputy Head of Mission from 2015-2019. Based in Oslo, she has been working with various countries in the MENA region (Egypt, Libya, Iraq and Iran). From 2019-2020 she worked with the peace process in Afghanistan, and has represented Norway in the “host country support group” to the negotiations between the Afghan republic and Taliban in Qatar. Johansen is a member of the Nordic Women’s Mediation Network. She holds a MA in Peace and Conflict Transformation from The Arctic University of Norway.
