Dr. Heidi Huuhtanen is a Senior Research Fellow at the Finnish Institute of International Affairs and a Senior Advisor at the Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation CMI. She is a conflict resolution practitioner and researcher in the Middle East politics with over 20 years of experience. She has engaged with conflict stakeholders for example on national agendas, reconciliation processes and inclusion in multiple processes. She comes from private diplomacy background, having worked for peace mediation expert organizations. She formerly acted as a Programme Director of CMI global activities, Head of Middle East and North Africa and Acting Head of Sub-Saharan Africa. She also worked over 10 years as a Senior Advisor at the Berghof Foundation in Germany. She lectures courses on conflict resolution at the University of Helsinki. Dr. Huuhtanen has a PhD on Middle East International Relations from the University of Durham, UK.
