Mireia Cano is a senior independent consultant focusing on Women, Peace and Security and Evaluation work, with over 15 years of experience working in fragile, conflict-affected and humanitarian settings. Her work is grounded in practical experience across mediation, peacebuilding, humanitarian action and development, with a particular focus on translating Women, Peace and Security commitments into operational approaches in complex settings.

From 2014 to 2016, Mireia served as International Gender Advisor to the Colombian Peace Process for the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, supporting the establishment and work of the Gender Sub-Commission and the integration of gender perspectives across the peace negotiations leading to the 2016 Peace Agreement. She has subsequently advised peacebuilding and mediation organisations, including the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, the Norwegian Centre for Peace and Reconciliation and the Berghof Foundation, on gender, inclusion and women’s meaningful participation in peace processes.

Her recent WPS work includes leading the 2026 evaluation of UNDP’s transitional justice and peacebuilding programme in South Sudan; evaluating Finland´s support to Gender Equality including its WPS commitments; evaluating the EU´s Gender Action Plan; evaluating FBA’s support to the implementation of Mali’s National Action Plan on UNSCR 1325; developing UNDP guidance on gender-responsive UN transitions, with case studies in DRC and Sudan; leading the UN WOMEN Tunisia Country Portfolio Evaluation; evaluating inclusive peacebuilding and women’s economic empowerment programmes in DRC; and evaluating FAO’s Women, Peace and Natural Resources programme in Yemen. She has also undertaken conflict-sensitive gender and inclusion analysis in Colombia and led gender- and conflict-sensitive assessment of the coffee value chain in eastern DRC.Mireia is also a Lecturer on Women, Peace and Security at Sciences Po, Paris.
