Geographic expertise: More than twenty years of expertise from the Middle East and North Africa and the horn of Africa, especially Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Saudi-Arabia, Yemen  and South Sudan.

Signe Gilen is currently serving as Deputy Permanent Representative to African Union. She has covered different processes connected to Israel and Palestine from 1992 to 2010; as a researcher, as head of the people-to-people secretariat, and for the MFA. She has been Deputy Head of Mission (DHOM) in Juba, followed by three years as DHOM at the embassy in Riyadh where she had the main responsibility for Yemen, and as the MFA’s Special Envoy for Women, Peace and Security 2022-2026.
