Ambassador Sofie From-Emmesberger serves currently as EU’s Ambassador to Ethiopia. She has a background in the diplomatic service of Finland. Prior to her current position she was Director General for Africa and Middle East (2021-2024). She held the position as Chair of EU’s Political and Security Committee, PSC, from 2018 to 2021, and as Ambassador of Finland to PSC (2015-2018). She was the Ambassador of Finland to Kenya, Somalia, Uganda, Eritrea and the Seychelles as well as Permanent Representative to the UN in Nairobi (2011-2015). She worked at the Finnish missions in Tel Aviv and Strasbourg as well as in the fields of civilian crisis management and human rights. She holds a Master’s degree in law from the University of Helsinki and conducted post-graduate studies at the Institute for European Law, University of Saarland, Germany. She is a lecturer at the European Diplomatic Academy at the College of Europe in Bruges.
